Sure anyone can use Helvetica or Lucida, but if you really want to grab their attention, you’re going to want a font that stands out and says “look at me!” Zapfino is a great font, but you can always use a classic like Comic Sans or IMPACT.
Do you really want your email to blend in with the rest like it doesn’t matter? Of corse not. As far as color choices go you literally have thousands of choices, but the best colors like yellow or cyan are great since not many people use those colors, so your email is sure to stand out. Can’t pick just one? Choose a few colors you like and use them through out your email. It shows you spent time on this email and you really care.
The size of your font matters too. Remember that almost everyone has a 19” or larger screen and that using a font size of 24pt is no problem. Most readers would actually prefer that you use a larger font size to make up for the higher screen resolution.
Clipart. If you haven’t noticed by now, the content of your email really doesn’t matter much. It’s all about how it looks. If you got a great looking email, you’re set. People love pictures, they don’t like to read as much. So if you can find some clipart to add to your email to replace wordy sentences, DO IT!
When you really need to dive a point, should almost always use CAPS. It shows your serious and enthusiastic. If that’s not enough, you can combine a few things. Use caps, underline, bold, and italics to really get their attention and show meaning. If you are very serious about your email, it’s okay to write the whole email in caps. It shows you’re not messing around.
Lastly, there is the subject line. leave it blank! Yes, you read that right. By leaving your subject line blank it’s anybody’s guess what that email is about. It’s a surprise and more often than not, people can’t wait to see what that email is about. They will more likely open your email first.
So with these great tips, you too can soon be writing professional emails that really grab the readers attention and keep them informed.
